pro-neurodiversity developmental communication services
Intake, Screening and Assessment
If you have concerns about your child’s communication or social skills development, I offer a range of options.
As a first step, a complimentary 15 minute intake phone call can help us determine if there is a cause for concern.
Many families opt for an initial screening visit, which will consist of a blend of informal and formal assessment measures. Results and recommendations to be discussed after.
I also offer comprehensive speech and language assessments, including the generation of a detailed report discussing your child’s communication strengths and support needs. An independent evaluation can especially beneficial when children receive services in school (as under an Individualized Education Plan or 504 Plan) but are still showing challenges in the classroom or community.
Direct Intervention and Parent Coaching
If we decide communication supports would benefit your child, there are flexible avenues for us to make meaningful change.
Direct, play-based communication and social-pragmatic interventions based on the principles of human learning and healthy social development are my specialty. I can help your child learn to attend and engage with others, teach them to use sounds and words in daily routines, help them to play with (not just near!) siblings and other peers, and help them learn to express their thoughts and ideas clearly for everyone to understand.
Indirect coaching, where I will train you to use evidence-based language elicitation techniques to support your young learner in daily routines, is recommended for caregivers of toddlers showing language delays.
Executive function and literacy skills can also be targeted in-person or through healthcare-compliant online telehealth platforms to support older elementary, middle, and high school learners who have good foundational skills but have been challenged by academic demands as they enter the upper grades. Teletherapy can also support your child in learning ‘digital pragmatics’— social skills online and in the digital classroom.
